The students of the Óriás Nándor Szakkollégium (College for Advanced Studies) of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the University of Pécs visited the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights in April 2025. The group was hosted and led by the Minority Ombudsman, accompanied by Dr. Gábor Békési and Dr. Mátyás Kiss, lecturers at the PTE ÁJK and senior officials of the College for Advanced Studies.

During the meeting, the students had the opportunity to learn more about the framework, possibilities and challenges of the Ombudsman-type legal protection, and were also given a special insight into the functioning of the nationality rights system in Hungary. Dr. Veronika Molnár presented the work of the Directorate General for Equal Treatment and described the Ombudsman's duties and powers in relation to official procedures, Dr. Attila Lápossy gave an insight into the practical work of the Equal Opportunities and Children's Rights Department, and in a discussion with the students he also gave a general overview of the constitutional tasks of the Ombudsman and the framework of its operation.

After the presentations, the members of the College for Advanced Studies visited the Parliament House, where they learned about the organisation, operation and vision of the Parliament’s Committee of the Nationalities in Hungary. Anita Schweighoffer, Head of the Secretariat, and Gregor Gallai, Head of the Cabinet of the German Nationality MP, led the professional discussion. We would like to thank them for their help in organising the visit.

The Óriás Nándor Szakkollégium is an association of outstanding students with an active relationship with the PTE ÁJK, which aims to provide its members with additional knowledge and thus new opportunities for development in addition to their academic education. Through its activities, it helps students to become professionally prepared lawyers during their university years, capable of meeting the expectations and challenges of the labour market.
