null General Comment 3/2021 on the use of individual names in nationality languages

In her general comment, the Minority Ombudsman describes the complex situation of the individual use of names in nationality languages, the registration of births and deaths in accordance with the rules of nationality languages and other related official procedures, in particular the issuing of official certificates.

She has not identified any structural problems in the course of the investigation, nevertheless, she made professional recommendations, in particular in the areas of promoting the legal awareness of persons belonging to a nationality and of officials involved in the registration of births, partial amendments to the rules on registration in nationality languages and the online availability of nationality surname registers.

The Minority Ombudsman also called for closer cooperation between the NEB, the ONÖSZ and the Minister of the Prime Minister's Office.
